A deck that focuses on ramping up mana quickly and drawing cards would benefit from using Explore, such as a ramp or control deck. While Explore is a solid card for its mana cost, there are better alternatives like Growth Spiral or Explore's cousin, Growth from the Ashes, which provide additional benefits like putting lands directly onto the battlefield or ramping even further. However, Explore can still be a valuable inclusion in decks looking for card draw and extra land drops, especially in formats where those effects are limited.

Explore’s effect allows you to play an additional land during your main phase. Doing so follows the normal timing rules for playing lands. In particular, you don’t get to play a land as Explore resolves; Explore fully resolves first and you draw a card, perhaps a land you’ll play later.

If you somehow manage to cast Explore when it’s not your turn, you’ll draw a card when it resolves, but you won’t be able to play a land that turn.
