Booby Trap is best suited for a control or mill deck that aims to disrupt an opponent's strategy while maintaining card advantage. It can be particularly effective against decks that rely on specific key cards, as it punishes them for drawing those cards. However, there are arguably better options, such as Sorin, Grim Nemesis or Toxic Deluge, which provide more immediate impact or board control for a similar mana cost. While Booby Trap can see play in niche scenarios, its reliance on the opponent's draws makes it less consistent compared to other more proactive or reactive spells, so it may not be a staple choice in competitive formats.

If an effect causes the player to draw multiple cards, each card is revealed as it’s drawn. If Booby Trap’s ability triggers, it will go on the stack once the card-drawing effect has concluded.

If Booby Trap’s last ability is countered, Booby Trap remains on the battlefield (and no damage is dealt).

The “if you do” part is only done if you successfully sacrifice this card. In other words, it has to be on the battlefield when the trigger resolves or it does not deal damage.
