Desolation Prowler would mainly fit a very low-curve black aggro or “suicide black” deck that wants efficient early threats and is willing to trade life for extra damage, potentially alongside life-gain, lifelink, or cards that benefit from paying life; however, it is generally outclassed in most formats by stronger two-mana black creatures such as **Dauthi Voidwalker** for disruption and evasive pressure, **Tenacious Underdog** for card advantage and recursion, **Bloodtithe Harvester** in Rakdos shells, or even **Knight of the Ebon Legion**, which has a more relevant late-game mana sink and can grow permanently through combat. A 2-mana Wolf with a once-per-turn +2/+2 boost can hit hard, but paying 2 life for a temporary pump is costly, it has no evasion or built-in resilience, and its tribal relevance is usually insufficient to justify it; therefore, it should generally not see competitive Constructed play, though it can be a reasonable casual black-Wolf or aggressive limited-style in
