Unsubtle Mockery would fit best in a red-based midrange or spells-matter deck that values efficient creature removal while gaining small graveyard synergy from Surveil 1—particularly in formats where graveyard setup (for flashback, reanimation, delirium, or escape-style mechanics) has value; however, at 3 mana for 4 damage, it is generally below rate compared to stronger alternatives like **Lightning Strike** (2 mana, 3 damage at instant speed), **Abrade** (2 mana, 3 damage or artifact removal flexibility), **Roast** (2 mana, 5 damage to nonflying creatures), or **Flame-Blessed Bolt / Play with Fire** in lower-curve decks, and even **Fable of the Mirror-Breaker**-style value cards outclass it in midrange shells; while the Surveil 1 adds minor card selection upside, it likely isn’t enough to justify the extra mana unless the format heavily rewards graveyard setup, so in most competitive environments this card would be fringe playable at best rather than a staple.
