Blighted Nightmare would fit best in a mono-black or black-based midrange/reanimator deck that plays a high density of creatures and expects games to go long, since it rewards you for stocking your graveyard and repeatedly rebuying creatures; self-mill, sacrifice, or grindy value shells (like Aristocrats or recursion-focused midrange) would make the most of the perpetual +1/+1 boost and scalable reanimation, especially if you control high-toughness creatures to raise the X ceiling. That said, it’s fairly slow and mana-intensive compared to more efficient reanimation spells like Reanimate, Animate Dead, Persist, or even The Cruelty of Gix in Standard environments, which return creatures more cheaply or immediately without setup constraints, so in competitive formats it’s likely outclassed; however, in slower Standard, Alchemy, or Commander metas that value repeatable graveyard synergy and long-term value, it could be a solid engine piece rather than a top-tier staple.
