A control or defensive white deck focused on preventing damage and controlling the board would benefit from using Channel Harm. While Channel Harm can be situationally useful, there are potentially better options such as Settle the Wreckage or Teferi's Protection for more versatile protection or removal. Channel Harm may not see widespread play due to its high mana cost and limited utility compared to other options available in Magic: the Gathering.

Channel Harm’s only target is the creature it may deal damage to. You choose that target as you cast Channel Harm, not at the time it prevents damage.

Whether the target creature is still a legal target is not checked after Channel Harm resolves. Damage will still be prevented, even if Channel Harm can’t deal damage to that creature.
