Excavation can be beneficial in a control deck that aims to draw cards and maintain card advantage, especially in a deck with ways to easily sacrifice lands or benefit from doing so. However, there are better options like Trade Routes which not only allows you to draw cards by bouncing lands but also provides additional utility by returning lands to your hand. Excavation could see play in specific land sacrifice or self-mill strategies, but overall, it may not be the most efficient choice compared to other options available.
