While it provides a way to potentially find and put a basic land card on top of your library, there are more efficient options available like Fabled Passage or Evolving Wilds for mana fixing and deck thinning. Fertile Thicket could see play in casual or budget decks, but in more competitive settings, there are better alternatives to consider.

You don’t have to reveal a basic land card from among the five cards you look at, even if one is there. If you don’t, you won’t put a card on top of your library.
