Lecturing Scornmage would fit best in a low-curve, spell-heavy deck that regularly casts targeted instants and sorceries—such as a black-based spells-matter, heroic-style, or tempo deck that uses cheap removal (e.g., Cut Down–style effects) and combat tricks to both disrupt the opponent and grow its own threat. It particularly benefits from decks that can reliably target their own creatures with pump or protection spells, ensuring steady +1/+1 counter growth rather than relying only on removal. However, compared to similar payoff creatures like Monastery Swiftspear, Young Pyromancer, or even cards like Tenth District Legionnaire in formats where they’re legal, Scornmage is generally weaker because it only grows itself and requires targeting a creature specifically, making it narrower and slower. Unless it has aggressively costed stats (e.g., strong base power/toughness for B), it’s unlikely to see competitive play outside of niche or casual spellslinger builds, as more efficient or bro
