Matoc fits a mono-red Commander deck built around repeatable sources that deal exactly 2 damage: creatures entering with `Purphoros, God of the Forge`, token-makers plus `Impact Tremors` boosted by `Solphim, Mayhem Dominus`, or cheap two-damage burn and pingers. Its attack ability both triggers its own exile effect and turns otherwise dead graveyard cards into damage, but four mana plus tapping and exiling two cards is a steep rate, especially without knowing Matoc's power and toughness. `Solphim, Mayhem Dominus` is generally the better build-around for this strategy because it reliably doubles all noncombat damage and immediately turns one-damage effects into two-damage effects, while `Chandra, Torch of Defiance` is usually the better four-mana red card-advantage engine because it provides immediate exile-based card access without requiring damage triggers.
