While it provides a cheap and efficient way to make your opponent discard a card at random, there are potentially better options available, like Hymn to Tourach or Thoughtseize, which offer more control and selection over what your opponent discards. Considering these alternatives, Mind Knives may not see as much play in competitive Magic: The Gathering decks.
