Old Fogey is a quirky and versatile card that could find a home in a dinosaur tribal deck in Magic: the Gathering, benefiting from its synergies with other dinosaurs and protection from Homarids. However, due to its high mana cost and a plethora of abilities that may not always be relevant, it may not be the most efficient choice in a competitive deck. Other cards like Gishath, Sun's Avatar or Regisaur Alpha might provide more consistent value and impact in a dinosaur-themed deck, making them better choices for play in most scenarios.

Due to changes in how echo and phasing work since Old Fogey was originally printed, echo mostly does nothing in this case. This is, as they say, a bit weird. Old Fogey is phased out when its echo ability would trigger, so that ability doesn’t trigger at the beginning of the upkeep after Old Fogey enters the battlefield. Phasing in doesn’t cause Old Fogey to enter the battlefield, so echo ends up not really doing much at all.
