The Kraken of the Straits would be beneficial in a blue control deck that focuses on controlling the number of Islands on the battlefield to limit the blocking capabilities of opposing creatures. While this card can be situationally powerful, there are better options available in the Magic: the Gathering card pool, such as Aetherling or Inkwell Leviathan, which offer more versatile and impactful abilities. Ultimately, the Kraken of the Straits may not see widespread play due to its restrictive conditions and limited impact compared to other options.

The number of Islands you control is counted as blockers are declared. Creatures with power less than that number at that time can’t block Kraken of the Straits. Once blockers have been declared, the power of the blocking creatures and the number of Islands you control don’t matter.
