This card would benefit a deck that focuses on tempo and evasion, as it can quickly grow in power and provide card advantage. While Ascendant Spirit offers a versatile and potentially powerful threat, there are better options for a similar mana cost in competitive Magic: the Gathering formats, such as Delver of Secrets in Modern or Brazen Borrower in Standard. However, in a casual or budget deck, Ascendant Spirit could certainly see play as a fun and dynamic inclusion.
