A deck that benefits from Yavimaya Coast is a two-color deck that needs access to both green and blue mana early in the game, such as a Simic (green-blue) tempo or ramp deck. While the damage to the player can be a drawback, the flexibility of producing either green or blue mana is valuable. However, there are better dual lands available, such as Breeding Pool, which enters the battlefield untapped and doesn't deal damage to the player, making it a more optimal choice for competitive play. Yavimaya Coast could still see play in budget decks or casual settings where the cost of better dual lands is prohibitive.
