While Balthor the Defiled is a powerful card in the right deck, there are potentially better options like Chainer, Dementia Master or Xiahou Dun, the One-Eyed that offer similar graveyard recursion abilities with added flexibility or utility. However, Balthor the Defiled could still see play in specific tribal or graveyard-focused decks where its abilities can be maximized.
