Diary of Dreams would fit best in a slow, spell-dense control or spellslinger deck—especially in formats like Commander—where you regularly cast instants and sorceries to build up page counters and eventually turn it into a very cheap or even free repeatable card draw engine; it synergizes well with blue-based control, Izzet spellslinger, or Jeskai tempo shells that naturally chain spells over multiple turns. However, at a baseline cost of {5} and {T} before any reduction, it is quite slow compared to more efficient draw engines like **Rhystic Study**, **Mystic Remora**, **Archmage Emeritus**, **The One Ring**, or even **Tome of Legends** in the right shell, all of which generate cards faster or with less setup; in competitive or fast formats it would likely be too clunky, but in slower Commander metas it could be a reasonable value piece if your deck reliably casts multiple spells per turn.
