The Serpent Society would fit best in a Golgari (B/G) deathtouch- and sacrifice-focused midrange or aristocrats-style deck, especially one built to exploit repeatable creature death triggers and board control. Its ward—five poison counters makes it extremely punishing to target in Commander and nearly untouchable in 60-card formats unless the opponent is already on an infect plan, while the deathtouch synergy encourages running cheap deathtouch creatures (e.g., Moss Viper, Fynn, the Fangbearer support pieces) alongside sacrifice outlets like Viscera Seer or Yawgmoth, Thran Physician to repeatedly force opponents to sacrifice nontoken creatures. However, at three mana in competitive formats it competes with more efficient and immediately impactful Golgari staples like Glissa Sunslayer, Glissa, the Traitor, or even Old-Growth Troll (for raw rate), and in Commander it competes with engines like Meren of Clan Nel Toth or Savra, Queen of the Golgari, which generate broader value.
