Rest in Peace is a powerful sideboard card that is commonly used in Modern and Legacy formats to shut down graveyard-based strategies like Dredge, Reanimator, and Delve. Decks that benefit from Rest in Peace include white-based control and midrange decks looking to disrupt their opponent's graveyard interactions. While Rest in Peace is a strong option, some decks may prefer other graveyard hate cards like Leyline of the Void or Tormod's Crypt depending on their specific needs and strategies, but Rest in Peace should definitely see play in the right meta.

If a card is discarded while Rest in Peace is on the battlefield, abilities that function when a card is discarded (such as madness) still work, even though that card never reaches a graveyard. In addition, spells or abilities that check the characteristics of a discarded card (such as Chandra Ablaze’s first ability) can find that card in exile.
