A mono-black control deck that focuses on ramping up Swamps would benefit from using Squelching Leeches, as it can become a powerful creature for a relatively low cost. However, there are better options available, such as Gray Merchant of Asphodel, which has a more impactful ability when it enters the battlefield and can drain life from the opponent. Squelching Leeches may not see much play in competitive Magic: the Gathering decks due to its limited versatility and reliance on Swamps for its power and toughness.
