Stone Docent fits best in a white-based graveyard or attrition deck that values incremental life gain and graveyard interaction, such as Orzhov (white-black) midrange, Esper control with self-mill elements, or any deck that cares about surveil, lifegain triggers, or filling the graveyard (for example, reanimator-lite or cards that trigger on life gain like Ajani’s Pridemate-style effects). Its main appeal is that it provides value from the graveyard without costing a card in hand, helping smooth draws via surveil while gaining life, but the effect is relatively low impact and slow since it’s sorcery-speed and only 2 life plus surveil 1 for {W}. In most competitive formats, there are stronger options: Revitalize (more life and card draw), Cling to Dust (graveyard interaction plus life and card draw flexibility), Lunarch Veteran or Soul Warden (repeatable life gain with board presence), and cards with Afterlife, Disturb, or Flashback often provide more substantial graveyard value.
