A **Samwise Gamgee** Commander deck built from this card pool is a flavorful and synergistic **Selesnya (Green–White) Food and Tokens value engine** deck. It plays like a cozy Hobbit feast that quietly snowballs into overwhelming board presence and resource advantage. Let’s break it down. --- ## 🧙‍♂️ Commander: Samwise Gamgee Samwise Gamgee (the Food-focused version) is the heart of the deck. He: - Creates **Food tokens** - Recurs small permanents from your graveyard - Encourages a grindy, value-oriented playstyle He rewards you for: - Sacrificing Food - Playing historic/legendary synergies - Going wide with small creatures This deck is less about explosive combos and more about **steady advantage, resilience, and token multiplication**. --- # 🌿 Core Strategy ## 1️⃣ Food Engine (Primary Plan) The deck revolves around producing and abusing **Food tokens**. ### Key Cards: - **Samwise Gamgee** – Food production and recursion - **Peregrin Took** – Extra Food + card draw from Food sacrifice - **Rosie Cotton of South Lane** – Turns Food creation into +1/+1 counters - **Gilded Goose** – Early ramp + Food - **Tireless Provisioner** – Food (or Treasure) on landfall - **Academy Manufactor** – The all-star multiplier ### The Big Combo Engine: With **Academy Manufactor** in play: Any time you create: - A Food → You also create a **Clue and a Treasure** - A Treasure → You also create a **Food and Clue** With: - Tireless Provisioner - Peregrin Took - Samwise You can generate absurd value quickly. This engine gives: - Ramp (Treasure) - Card draw (Clue) - Life and sacrifice fuel (Food) It becomes a Hobbit industrial revolution. --- ## 2️⃣ Go-Wide & Counter Synergy This deck doesn’t win by one giant creature. It wins by building a large, synergistic board. ### Key Cards: - **Rosie Cotton** – Places +1/+1 counters whenever tokens enter - **Banquet Guests** – Big threat fueled by Food - **Feasting Hobbit** – Can become massive via Food sacrifice - **Meriadoc Brandybuck** - **Sam, Loyal Attendant** - **Treebeard, Gracious Host** – Lifegain synergy - **The Shire** You slowly: - Create tokens - Distribute counters - Build a board of increasingly threatening Hobbits Eventually, even small creatures become serious attackers. --- ## 3️⃣ Legendary / Flavor Value Package Several legendary creatures reinforce the midrange value plan: - **Gandalf the White** – Doubles ETB triggers of legendary creatures and artifacts (very strong here) - **Jaheira, Friend of the Forest** – Turns tokens into mana dorks - **The Gaffer** – Card draw through lifegain - **Elanor Gardner** – Ramp and fixing - **Samwise the Stouthearted** – Protection and recursion - **Bill the Pony** – Small but synergistic support Gandalf + Samwise + ETB legends can generate significant incremental value. --- ## 4️⃣ Interaction & Utility You’re not defenseless. - **Swords to Plowshares** - **Path to Exile** - **The Battle of Bywater** – Flavorful semi-board wipe - **Revive the Shire** – Recursion - **Trail of Crumbs** – Card selection engine You have solid removal and strong staying power. --- # ✅ Strengths of the Deck ### 🌱 1. Incredible Value Engine Once Academy Manufactor or Peregrin Took sticks, your resources multiply rapidly. ### 🍞 2. Excellent Grind Game You can: - Gain life - Recur permanents - Draw cards - Produce mana You’re very strong in long games. ### 🛡 3. Resilient to Removal Samwise and recursion effects mean: - Creatures come back - Value pieces get reused You don’t fold to a single board wipe. ### 💰 4. Multi-Layered Resources You generate: - Mana (Treasure / Jaheira) - Cards (Clue / Peregrin) - Life (Food) - Counters (Rosie) Few decks can attack all these axes efficiently. --- # ❌ Weaknesses of the Deck ### 🔥 1. Weak to Board Wipes Despite recursion, a full wipe can: - Remove your token army - Kill your engines - Reset your counters You must rebuild from scratch. --- ### ⚡ 2. Slow Start (Sometimes) Without: - Sol Ring - Gilded Goose - Tireless Provisioner The deck can be a bit slow in early turns. It’s midrange, not explosive combo. --- ### 🧠 3. Engine-Dependent Without: - Academy Manufactor - Peregrin Took - Trail of Crumbs You may struggle to maintain card advantage. --- ### 🛑 4. Limited Win Conditions This list appears to win primarily by: - Combat damage - Growing a wide board There is no obvious infinite combo in this version. If the table stabilizes behind big blockers or repeated wipes, you may stall. --- # 🎯 How the Deck Wins Typical win pattern: 1. Develop Food engine. 2. Multiply tokens with Manufactor. 3. Use Rosie to stack counters. 4. Generate overwhelming board presence. 5. Swing wide with pumped Hobbits. Alternate path: - Feasting Hobbit becomes enormous - Banquet Guests grows large - Treebeard leverages lifegain You win by turning a picnic into a war march. --- # 🏆 Power Level Estimate - Casual to Mid-Power Commander - Strong in synergy-driven pods - Not cEDH - Excellent in thematic or Tolkien-flavored tables --- # 🍃 Final Verdict This Samwise Gamgee deck is: - Flavorful - Synergistic - Grind-focused - Token-based - Value-oriented It embodies the spirit of the Shire: Start small. Share food. Grow quietly. Then overwhelm the table with an army of well-fed Hobbits. If you enjoy: - Engine decks - Token strategies - Incremental value - Tolkien flavor This is a delightful and surprisingly powerful Commander choice. And remember: Even the smallest Hobbit can change the course of the game. 🍞🌿
