Temur Devourer

Temur Devourer is a combo-control deck built around Phyrexian Devourer. The primary plan is to assemble Devourer with Fling or Altar of Dementia, then exile cards from the top of the library to give it lethal power. Fling deals that power as damage to an opponent, while Altar of Dementia mills the opponent for the creature’s power. Gaea’s Blessing helps prevent the deck from losing to self-mill and can recycle important cards when milled.

Oath of Druids provides another way to find and deploy Phyrexian Devourer, especially against creature-heavy decks. Tinker can sacrifice an artifact such as Chromatic Sphere, Lotus Petal, or Mind Stone to search directly for Devourer or Altar of Dementia. Intuition and Impulse improve consistency by finding combo pieces, while the large amount of fast mana from Ancient Tomb, City of Traitors, Crystal Vein, Lotus Petal, and artifact mana allows the deck to operate several turns ahead of normal strategies.

The deck uses a small defensive package to survive until the combo is ready. Defense Grid protects critical spells from countermagic, while Xantid Swarm can shut off opposing instants during the combo turn. Pyroclasm clears small creatures, and Rushing River provides flexible interaction against problematic permanents. Tsabo’s Web, Tranquil Domain, and Overload offer additional answers to specific mana, enchantment, and artifact-based strategies.

Its main strengths are explosive speed, multiple ways to find the combo, and the ability to win without relying on conventional combat. Tinker gives the deck powerful toolbox access, Oath of Druids is excellent against creature decks, and Defense Grid or Xantid Swarm can make the winning turn difficult to disrupt. The mana base also supports powerful early plays through Ancient Tomb and City of Traitors.

The major weaknesses are vulnerability to graveyard hate, artifact removal, discard, and instant-speed answers to the combo. Phyrexian Devourer is fragile, and the deck can struggle when it draws the wrong half of the combination or loses its acceleration. Oath of Druids may be unreliable against opponents with few creatures, while fast lands such as Ancient Tomb and City of Traitors can cause significant damage or card disadvantage. The manabase is also somewhat strained by several colorless lands and lands that enter tapped, making careful sequencing important.

Overall, Temur Devourer is a high-risk, high-reward Premodern combo deck. It rewards precise mulligans, efficient tutoring, and careful protection of the combo turn, while punishing slow starts and poorly timed attempts to win through opposing interaction.
