Edit Article

Yesterday, Mark Rosewater was kind enough to leave us several teaserslink outside website for the next set, Ikoria. Let's discuss here each teaser that Mark released.

The following can be found in Ikoria:

Magic's seventh egg

I researched and found more than 7 eggs in Magiclink outside website. Eggs can be creatures as well as artifacts. [EDITED] for eggs in creature subtypes, it has 6, you can find them herelink outside website. Some examples below:

A card with the text "4 or more times this game"

We have several cards with the text 4 or more times this turn, but never 4 or more times this game. Is it a skill that will make you win the game right away?

A card with the text "total power 10 or less"

Vehicle crewing is often a "full power X or more" ability. The "or less" part is very strange, because it implies that zero power is already being counted in the skill. It is probably a card that "if you have full power 10 or less", it does not do anything. A card with a restriction to be able to attack for example.

Magic’s largest power/toughness granting aura.

That statement is complicated. It means that in this edition we will have a more powerful card than the one below:

A card with the text “X is the number of times this creature has mutated”

This gives us a lot of information. The first is that the ability to "mutate" can be done multiple times as opposed to abilities like "monstrosity". The second information is that each time a creature is "mutated", it gains something, I imagine something along the lines of +X/+X.

Magic’s third and fourth card with “(Zero is even.)” reminder text.

The two cards are not being played much, mainly because the effect is not suitable for all creatures.

Three cards with the text “different name(s)”

In the history of Magic, cards with the text "different names" usually see play. There are 12 cards with this text on them. Examples of cards with this text:

Twelve different types of counters - A card that says “choose a kind of counter at random” - A card with the text “remove eight foreshadow counters”

I have grouped these 3 phrases by Mark Rosewater because they all represent something new in this edition. Never before have we had so many counters and we've never seen foreshadow counters.

And a cycle that players have been asking us to make for over ten years

There are several cycles that have been requested for more than 10 years. What was most speculated in our team is the cycle of allied fastlands. Lands as Blackcleave Cliffs were printed only once and in Scars of Mirrodin in 2010, more than 10 years.

Conclusion

What do you think? If you believe that we are wrong in something, comment so that we can all speculate together.
