The legendary cats of Nine Lives

Let me show you the spiritual avatars of the legendary cats who appear in the art of the card Nine Lives.

Core Set 2021 brought [[Nine Lives]], a rather interesting card with a cute kitten surrounded by spirits that represent legendary Magic cats, which I'm going to show you now. Pay attention to the image below, where the spirits are numbered, it is from them that we will talk about the legends of this card. [image](https://cdn.cardsrealm.com/images/uploads/1592549985.jpeg) The first cat in the image is [[Marisi, Breaker of the Coil]], Marisi led his fellow Leonins in a riot against the Cloud Empire and the Spiral's restrictions, an outdated set of laws written on an ancient stone. And then, a great civil has began. The white wall that housed the spiral was broken and the Nacalt were divided into two tribes. The proud ones who followed Marisi's beliefs were called the Wild Nacatl and the other tribe, the descendants of the Cloud Empire, were called the Cloud Nacatl. [image](https://mtg.cardsrealm.com/images/cartas/crop/c19-commander-2019/marisi-breaker-of-the-coil-46-med.jpeg) The second cat is also from Alara, [[Jazal Goldmane]]. He was a great leader known for his morality and character. He had a keen interest in history and prophecy, and sought to understand the nature of Alara's fractured plane. With the help of his brother, Jazal brought his pride to prosperity and peace. In contrast to the rest of the Wild Nacatl, he questioned the separation of his people since the Breaking of the Spiral and even tried to reach the Cloud Nacatl, those who chose to remain in the mountains after this event. Because of his political beliefs, he was killed by zombies that the shaman Zaliki summoned. [image](https://mtg.cardsrealm.com/images/cartas/crop/c17-commander-2017/jazal-goldmane-62-med.jpeg) The Third Cat is actually a Dragon Cat, [[Wasitora, Nekoru Queen]]. After mating with Mayonako, the alpha male of the group, Wasitora decided to have her young in Madara, chosen because she liked the fish from that place. Wasitora settled down near the village of Sekana. The villagers did not like to constantly pay fish tributes, so they called Tetsuo Umezawa, the imperial champion to destroy the dragon cat. Nekoru and the champion fought, but the duel was interrupted by an Ancient Wurm. Wasitora helped Tetsuo to defeat the monster and the samurai decided that she didn't need to be killed to free Sekana, he named her with his imperial representative and defender of the port city, his payment, of course, would be in fish. Wasitora had her young in Madara and years later during the Amendment it was shown that they control the entire island. [image](https://mtg.cardsrealm.com/images/cartas/crop/c17-commander-2017/wasitora-nekoru-queen-49-med.jpeg) Our fourth legend is [[Jedit Ojanen of Efrava]] who was a tiger warrior from Dominaria. Jedit was very adventurous in nature and instead of staying in Efrava, he traveled the world, looking for his father who was also an adventurer. This eventually led him to conflict with the magician Johan who was responsible for the death of his father. In the final battle between the two, Jedit sacrificed himself to send Johan into a desert, where he was killed just as Jedit's father, devoured by Sandworm. [image](https://mtg.cardsrealm.com/images/cartas/crop/plc-planar-chaos/jedit-ojanen-of-efrava-131-med.jpeg) Our fifth cat is one that recently came to us, [[Jaheera, the Orphanguard]]. In Ikoria, when a human hunter kills a monster, he usually leaves the monster's offspring to fend for itself in the wild. Kaheera is driven by maternal instinct and protects any young creature she encounters, creating in that way her diverse litter of monsters from all the dominant clades of Ikoria. [image](https://mtg.cardsrealm.com/images/cartas/crop/piko-ikoria:-lair-of-behemoths-promos/kaheera-the-orphanguard-224p-med.jpeg) The sixth legendary creature represented in Nine Lives is [[Arahbo, Roar of the World]], an avatar cat from an unknown plane. Just as a lion's roar spread across the savannah, Arahbo's voice resonates through the Multiverse, stirring the hearts of all cats and awakening their spirits at his call. As a primordial being, Arahbo represents the ideal feline: intelligent, perceptive, assertive, balanced and a cruel hunter. He climbs the mountains of his world and lives on its snowy peaks, which offer camouflage to increase his sneak attacks. Although independent by nature, he learned to tolerate the presence of other respectful cats, accepting his offers while enjoying his inspiring presence. [image](https://mtg.cardsrealm.com/images/cartas/crop/c17-commander-2017/arahbo-roar-of-the-world-35-med.jpeg) Our seventh feline soul, [[Mirri, Weatherlight Duelist]], is a warrior cat member of the Weatherlight crew, which was best friends with Gerrard Capashen with whom she trained with Multani. When Mirri and Gerrard became members of the crew, they were instrumental in the search for their captain Sisay who had been kidnapped and taken to the plane of Rath, one of the worlds controlled by the Phyrexians. When Selenia attacked her fellow Crovax, Mirri dived in front of him to deflect one of the dark angel's attacks. Mirri was seriously injured in the chest and was taken back to the Weatherlight to be treated. Crovax was also knocked unconscious after he killed Selenia thanks to Mirri's sacrifice, however by killing the angel he was contaminated. Mirri and Crovax recovered, but remained under observation. Mirri was curious when Crovax woke up stunned and staggered out. She followed him to the deck and saw her trying to sabotage the Weatherlight candles. It attacked Crovax, causing both to fall from the ship. Crovax tried to use his new hypnotic powers to subdue her, meanwhile Gerrard, managed to rescue Sisay and during the escape, he saw Mirri and Crovax battling, he tried to rescue her, however he was confronted by Greven il-Vec, and was forced to fight with him while Mirri fought alone. Realising that Gerrard could not save her, Mirri let Crovax kill her so that Gerrard could save himself and flee. [image](https://mtg.cardsrealm.com/images/cartas/crop/c17-commander-2017/mirri-weatherlight-duelist-43-med.jpeg) The eighth cat of nine lives is [[Kemba, Kha Regent]]. She is a relative of the Golden Puppy Raksha and the regent Kha, which means the leader and ruler of the remaining Leonins who live in the Razor fields of Mirrodin. She tries to unite the Leonins who divided into two groups: one supported the kha regent, while the other furiously rebelled, now they have a common enemy, the Phyrexians. [image](https://mtg.cardsrealm.com/images/cartas/crop/som-scars-of-mirrodin/kemba-kha-regent-12-med.jpeg) And the ninth and most important life is that of the kitten in the art of Paul Scott Canavan. He twitted that he was asked to draw a perfectly ordinary domestic cat surrounded by the ghostly spiritual avatars of his past lives, the eight legendary and important ancestors’ legends of magic. The Story of Teferi - From Mending to New Phyrexia

Back in Dominaria, Teferi went to Skyshroud Forest, the Rathi forest that appeared next to Keld during Conjunction and there he met [[Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury]] who told him that Dominaria was almost sterile with mana and temporal cracks they were spread all over the world. The plane was dying and as Dominaria is the nexus of the multiverse, the whole existence is at stake. Teferi asks the elven goddess for help to restore Shiv and Zalfhir, but Skyshroud was under attack by the Keldonians and Freyalise considered Teferi a traitor for having abandoned Dominaria during the Phyrexian invasion. She refuses to help the planeswalker. Upon examining Skyshourd's rift, Teferi met with [[Radha, Heir to Keld]], a half-elf, half-human warrior who could take mana from the rift just as the rift took mana from the plane. The population of true Keldonians is getting smaller and smaller, their people are hungry, so they attack the forest. Radha was the last descendant of the founding hero Astor and she led the resistance. She wanted to bring the real Keld back and save her people. [image](https://mtg.cardsrealm.com/images/cartas/crop/dds-duel-decks:-mind-vs-might/radha-heir-to-keld-53-med.jpeg) Teferi makes a proposal to her, promising to teach her age-old knowledge of Keld in exchange for her help to find some way to save Dominaria. Radha joins the magician and Jhoira, and the trio went to Urborg. There, they meet [[Venser, Shaper Savant]], an artisan who grew up in the land dominated by the planeswalker who hates artisans, [[Lord Windgrace]]. Teferi was able to see that both Radha and Venser had the Planeswalker Spark, but he realized that it was different from his. Something changed in the multiverse. Venser introduced his visitors to his 'Ambulator', a machine that could imitate a planeswalk. He used remnants of Phyrexian machines to build the artifact. Just as Radha was connected to the first crack, the Venser Machine had some connection with the Urborg rift, and when Venser turns on his artifact the rift reacts violently to Teferi's presence. She pulls the group inside and they fall into the cracks of reality where they witness the devastating events in the history of Dominaria, such as the activation of the [[Golgothian Sylex ]]in the end of the Brothers' War, the temporal explosion and then the obliteration of Tolaria, the battle against Yawgmoth and the scourge of Karona. They can also see several cracks all over the world, Skyshroud, Shiv, Zhalfir, Urborg, Sucker, Tolaria, Madara and Yavimaya. Jhoira, Venser and Radha wake up on a beach in Madara. They were separated from Teferi who is still lost in the temporal fissures. In that place they are attacked by the Nekoru descendants of [[Wasitora, Nekoru Queen]], the cat dragons attack and Radha fights against the prince of creatures. While the others are drawn into a conversation with a sinister and disembodied voice, the voice tells Jhoira that it saw them falling into reality and pulled them towards Madara. The voice introduced himself as Sensei Ryu and was very interested in Venser's spark, which was different. Using his mind-influencing magic, Ryu entered Venser's mind and used it as he wished, he crossed the spark of the Artificer and entered the material world, after so many years he was free, the reborn elder, Nicol Bolas. [image](https://mtg.cardsrealm.com/images/cartas/crop/dom-dominaria/the-eldest-reborn-90-med.jpeg) The elder Dragon planeswalker was ready to kill everyone, but Jhoira distracted it until finally Teferi managed to get out of the temporal gap. Teferi defies Bolas and in the duel of planeswalkers, the dragon easily defeats the wizard. Teferi was about to be killed, but he shows Bolas the danger of the cracks. If they were not closed, there would be nowhere to live, let alone dominate. Nicol Bolas decides to let the group go, after all it had a revenge to deal with, and it would be a revenge on the name that imprisoned it, everyone connected with the name Umezawa. So the dragon went to Kamigawa. Radha asks Teferi to send her back to Keld and she would do things her way from there, so together with Venser and Jhoira, they go where once was Shiv. Faced with the temporal gap, Teferi uses his vital energy to forge a connection with the local gap, he plans to sacrifice himself to close that temporal gap and in the process Shiv would return to the place it should never have left. Teferi tells his companions that they must do everything to close the cracks or it will be the end of everything. Teferi did not die, but lost his powers to seal the temporal gap and restore the continent to its correct shape. Teferi saved Shiv, but he sacrificed his spark in doing so. He is no longer a planeswalker and this breaks Teferi because now he knows he will not to be able to bring Zalfhir, his homeland, back. Teferi continued to help the legends of dominaria to close the other cracks. The Mending that changed and saved the multiverse was completed and Teferi returned to Jamuraa without a spark and carrying the burden for Zalfhir's emptiness. Teferi got married and, seventy years later, he already had a daughter called [[Niambi, Faithful Healer]]. At this point, he discovers that his former mentor Urza has left behind a series of magical devices and artifacts that may be useful to repair Zhalfir's problem. With the help of his daughter, the new Weatherlight team and the Sentinels, he retrieves one of these artifacts, a delicate dark crystal sphere nestled in a silver cage, but he has not yet discovered how the artifact works. After that, he joins Jhoira to fight against [[Demonlord Belzenlok]] and The Cabal. [image](https://cdn.cardsrealm.com/images/uploads/1591924894.jpeg) Unbeknownst to Teferi, Jhoira wore an amulet around her neck, which contained a small stone of energy that contained a fragment of Teferi's Planeswalker spark. She made this stone herself at Mana Rig years ago. And seeing so many planeswalkers appearing in Dominaria and knowing their reasons for fighting for the multiverse, Jhoira finally found the right moment to deliver the amulet to Teferi. The Wizard thought for a moment, he liked the life he was remembering, but Niambi tells his father that he is a hero and will always help people. Teferi returned to being a Planeswalker and took the oath of the Gatewatch promising to help in the fight against Nicol Bolas. Teferi traveled with the sentries to Ravnica for the final showdown against the dragon. Along with many other planeswalkers and Ravnicans, he fought against the Eternals of the hideous horde. At the beginning of the conflict, Teferi slowed the time around the Planar Bridge, greatly delaying the advance of Bolas' army. He also used his time manipulation skills to save civilians and even other planeswalkers. According to Jace, Teferi was the one who saved the most people in this war, he really is a hero. Teferi survived the battle and was present during the ensuing planar celebration, but other major battles await Teferi. He attended Gideon's funeral in Theros. Later, Teferi joined Karn and Ajani Ajani Goldmane at the home of his daughter Niambi in Dominaria. There they started to think of a strategy to help Karn in the battle against New Phyrexia, this time he will not run away, the battle against the Phyrexians is approaching. [image](https://mtg.cardsrealm.com/images/cartas/crop/dom-dominaria/teferi-hero-of-dominaria-207-med.jpeg) And this is Teferi's story, I hope you liked it.
