About Pyrrhic Revival

Pyrrhic Revival, Sorcery, designed by Richard Kane Ferguson first released in Jul, 2008 in the set Eventide. It's currently being selled by the minimum price of 0.99.

A deck that focuses on sacrificing creatures for value or reanimating creatures from the graveyard would benefit from Pyrrhic Revival, as it allows for a mass reanimation effect with a downside that can be mitigated with the right synergies. While Pyrrhic Revival can be powerful in the right deck, there are arguably better options like Living Death or Rise of the Dark Realms that provide similar effects without the -1/-1 counters, making them more versatile and potentially stronger choices in most situations. Pyrrhic Revival could see play in more niche strategies that can take advantage of the unique reanimation style it offers.

Rules

08/01/08

Pyrrhic Revival can cause creatures to be put onto the battlefield that have 0 toughness due to the -1/-1 counter from this effect. Those creatures are put right back into their owners’ graveyards as a state-based action. No spells or abilities that would remove counters or otherwise affect those creatures can be cast or activated before that happens. Still, the creatures did momentarily pop onto the battlefield, so any relevant triggered abilities (including their own enters-the-battlefield or leaves-the-battlefield abilities) will trigger. They’ll be put on the stack after state-based actions are checked.
