A deck focused on self-mill strategies or graveyard recursion, such as a black-blue Dimir control deck or a Golgari graveyard deck, would benefit from including Boneshard Slasher to take advantage of its threshold ability. However, there are better options available for similar effects, such as Tombstalker or Gurmag Angler, which offer more consistent power and evasion without the drawback of sacrificing when targeted. Boneshard Slasher may not see widespread play in competitive Magic: the Gathering formats due to its vulnerability to removal.
