Centaur Rootcaster fits a casual green-based ramp or landfall deck that can reliably make a small creature connect, but at four mana for a fragile 2/2 it is much slower and less reliable than dedicated ramp: `Cultivate` and `Kodama's Reach` guarantee lands without combat, `Sakura-Tribe Elder` ramps a turn earlier, and `Wood Elves` is usually better because it immediately puts a Forest onto the battlefield (and can find Forest dual lands where legal). In Commander, cards such as `Nature's Lore`, `Three Visits`, `Rampant Growth`, and `Farhaven Elf` are generally preferable for consistency, while landfall decks would rather use repeatable land engines or cheaper fetch effects. Rootcaster is reasonable in Limited or a very budget/casual combat-focused deck, but it generally should not see play in optimized Constructed or Commander lists because opponents can block or remove it before it ever ramps you.
