About Direct Hit
Direct Hit, Sorcery, designed by David Szabo first released in Aug, 2026 in the set Star Trek Commander.
Direct Hit would mainly benefit a slower red-based Limited, midrange, or Big Red deck that needs unconditional creature removal, but paying 3 mana at sorcery speed for 5 damage to only a creature is inefficient and too narrow for most Constructed formats; better options include `Roast`, which costs 2 mana and deals 5 damage to a nonflying creature, `Abrade`, which costs 2 mana and can either deal 3 damage or destroy an artifact, and `Lightning Strike` or similar cheap burn for greater flexibility, while `Flame Slash` is also cheaper if dealing 4 damage is enough, so Direct Hit should generally not see play outside of Limited or a very budget-focused deck with few alternatives.
