Getaway Barrel would fit best in a casual Commander deck with a very high creature count—especially one packed with expensive creatures that are all worthwhile hits—plus reliable artifact-sacrifice outlets such as Krark-Clan Ironworks, Ashnod’s Altar (with an artifact-to-creature conversion), Arcbound Ravager, or Goblin Welder effects, since simply waiting for the Barrel to be destroyed is too slow and unreliable; it is particularly reasonable in artifact-recursion shells that can sacrifice and recur it repeatedly. However, the randomness means it is poor in decks with utility creatures or a low creature density, because revealing thirteen cards may miss entirely or hit an underwhelming creature. More powerful and consistent alternatives include Sneak Attack, Through the Breach, Natural Order, Reanimate, Defense of the Heart, or even Monster Manual, depending on the colors and format; for artifact decks, Daretti, Scrap Savant and Goblin Welder provide stronger recurring artifact value.
