About Jace's Machinations
Jace's Machinations, Instant, designed by Rimas Valeikis first released in September 2026 in the set Reality Fracture and was printed exactly in 3 different ways. It see play in 4 formats: Standard, Modern, Commander and Pioneer. It's currently being selled by the minimum price of C$ 1.29.
Jace’s Machinations would benefit a dedicated blue planeswalker-control deck—especially one using several Jace planeswalkers, proliferate effects, and ways to protect planeswalkers—because it can generate a large Jace token and let you use Jace loyalty abilities during opponents’ turns, though it does not bypass the normal once-per-turn restriction. Its biggest weakness is that it costs three mana and is poor without a Jace already in play, making it too situational for competitive Constructed decks; in Commander or a casual Jace-themed deck, it could be a strong synergy card. Better alternatives depend on the goal: `Oath of Teferi` is generally better for repeated loyalty activations and broader planeswalker value, `The Chain Veil` is better in combo-oriented planeswalker decks, and `Doubling Season` is better when the priority is creating or maximizing loyalty counters. This card should see play only in a dedicated Jace or planeswalker deck, not as a general blue control staple.

Empower Jace won't let you put loyalty counters on nontoken Jace planeswalkers. However, if you control a Jace planeswalker token that you got another way (such as an effect that creates a token that's a copy of a permanent), empower Jace will put loyalty counters on that.
08/21/2026
If you control a Jace planeswalker token, you can't choose to create a new one when you empower Jace. You have to put the loyalty counters on your existing Jace planeswalker token. In the rare case that you control multiple Jace planeswalker tokens, you'll choose one of those tokens to put the loyalty counters on.
08/21/2026
Some spells and abilities that empower Jace may require targets. If each target chosen is an illegal target as that spell or ability tries to resolve, it won't resolve. You won't empower Jace.
08/21/2026
To empower Jace N, if you don't control a Jace planeswalker token, create a blue Jace planeswalker token with 0 loyalty, "[−1]: Surveil 1," and "[−3]: Draw a card." Choose a Jace planeswalker token you control. Put N loyalty counters on it.
08/21/2026
You may still activate only one loyalty ability of each permanent you control during the turn you cast Jace's Machinations.
