Massacre

About Massacre

Massacre, Sorcery, designed by Pete Venters first released in February 2000 in the set Nemesis and was printed exactly in 4 different ways. It see play in 2 formats: Legacy and Vintage. It's currently being selled by the minimum price of C$ 1.42.

Massacre is best in a mono-black or black-heavy control, Pox, or midrange deck—especially in Legacy sideboards—because it can be cast for free when an opponent controls a Plains (including lands such as Tundra or Scrubland) while you control a Swamp, making it excellent against white creature decks and small-creature strategies; however, its fixed -2/-2 effect is narrow and also kills your own creatures, so it is usually not a maindeck card. Toxic Deluge is generally better because it costs only three mana, works regardless of the opponent’s lands, and can clear larger creatures, while Damnation is better when you need a reliable unconditional sweeper; Massacre is still worth sideboard play in Legacy metas with substantial white representation, where its free-cast mode can create a major tempo advantage, but it is usually inferior or too weak for Modern, Commander, and most casual formats.
