The Asker of More Mana is a classic “tax” or “stax” piece, so it fits best in a white-based control, death-and-taxes, or stax deck that is built to operate efficiently under resource constraints—especially one with cheap creatures, Aether Vial–style effects, cost reduction, or mana denial like Wasteland and Armageddon to asymmetrically punish opponents. It’s strongest in formats like Commander or Legacy-style shells where slowing everyone down disproportionately hurts spell-heavy, combo, or tempo decks. However, as written, it’s weaker than established options like Thalia, Guardian of Thraben (which taxes noncreature spells for only 2 mana), Glowrider, Vryn Wingmare, or the much stronger and broader Sphere of Resistance and Thorn of Amethyst; even Grand Arbiter Augustin IV provides asymmetric advantage. At four mana and symmetrical, this card is likely too slow and too fair for competitive formats unless built around heavily, so while it could see casual or Commander play in a dedicate
