This card could be beneficial in a mono-black control deck that aims to weaken the opponent's green creature-based strategies. However, there are better options like Plague Engineer, which provides a similar effect with more versatility, impacting all creatures of a chosen type. While Rank and File may have situational use, it may not see regular play due to its limited scope compared to more powerful alternatives.

The -1/-1 penalty is given to all green creatures on the battlefield when the triggered ability resolves. It will not apply to green creatures that enter the battlefield later in the turn.
