This card would be beneficial in a black-based control or midrange deck that focuses on graveyard interaction and gaining life. While Rotfeaster Maggot provides a decent effect of gaining life equal to a creature card's toughness upon entering the battlefield, there are potentially better options like [[Ravenous Chupacabra]] or [[Shriekmaw]] that offer immediate creature removal in addition to their own bodies, making them more versatile choices.
