About Silicate Surveyor
Silicate Surveyor, Creature — tholian scout, designed by Joan Piqué Llorens first released in August 2026 in the set Star Trek.
Silicate Surveyor best fits red-based midrange, ramp, or battlecruiser Commander decks that can comfortably spend five mana on a creature and want modest card advantage, especially if they can play the exiled card immediately or on the following turn; it is less appealing for aggressive decks, which need more immediate pressure, and for control decks, which usually prefer cheaper or more reliable draw. Its temporary exile effect is useful but fairly low impact at five mana unless the creature has excellent combat stats, while reach is situational in red. More efficient alternatives include `Chandra, Torch of Defiance` for repeatable card advantage and mana at four mana, `Outpost Siege` for steady impulse draw at four mana, and `Theatre of Horrors` in Rakdos decks; `Etali, Primal Storm` is a stronger high-cost option when you want explosive free-card value.
