This card, Sonic Assault, would be beneficial in a tempo or control deck in Magic: the Gathering, as it allows for disruption of your opponent's board while also dealing direct damage. However, there are potentially better options available, such as Lightning Bolt, which offers more immediate and efficient removal. While Sonic Assault has the added benefit of jump-start, allowing for potential late-game value, it may not see widespread play due to the availability of stronger alternatives in the format.

If an effect allows you to pay an alternative cost rather than a spell’s mana cost, you may pay that alternative cost when you jump-start a spell. You’ll still discard a card as an additional cost to cast it.
