Thunderstaff, Artifact, designed by Kaja Foglio first released in Feb, 2004 in the set Darksteel and was printed exactly in 5 different ways. It's currently being selled by the minimum price of C$ 0.47.
A control deck that focuses on stalling the game and preventing damage would benefit from using Thunderstaff, as it provides a way to mitigate incoming combat damage. However, there are potentially better options available such as cards that provide more impactful effects or have a lower mana cost for similar abilities. Thunderstaff could see play in certain metagames where preventing damage is crucial, but it may not be a staple in most decks due to its limited utility compared to other options.

If Thunderstaff is untapped, it prevents 1 damage from each creature, each time it would deal combat damage to you. So if three creatures with double strike attack you and aren’t blocked, Thunderstaff will prevent a total of 6 damage.
