A deck that focuses on protecting key creatures or planeswalkers from damage would benefit from Martyrdom, as it provides a way to redirect damage to a less crucial target. However, there are better options available, such as cards that offer more versatile protection or additional benefits. While Martyrdom could be situationally useful, it may not be the most optimal choice for competitive play.

Can be used to redirect damage from that creature to itself. This has no particularly useful effect.

If the target stops being a creature, you can’t redirect damage to it until/unless it becomes a creature again.
