Tormented Thoughts could be beneficial in a deck that focuses on sacrificing creatures for value, such as a black sacrifice or reanimator deck. However, there are more efficient discard spells like Mind Twist or Hymn to Tourach that may be better options for disrupting the opponent's hand. Tormented Thoughts may not see much play in competitive settings due to its higher mana cost and additional sacrifice requirement compared to other discard spells available.
