Double Cross can be a powerful card in a control or discard-focused deck in Magic: the Gathering, as it allows for targeted hand disruption and can disrupt an opponent's game plan early on. However, there are more efficient and versatile options available such as Thoughtseize or Inquisition of Kozilek, which offer immediate hand disruption without the delay of waiting for the next game. While Double Cross may have situational uses, it may not see widespread play in competitive decks due to its higher mana cost and delayed effect.
