About Hellfire Mongrel
Hellfire Mongrel, Creature — elemental dog, designed by Dan Murayama Scott first released in Oct, 2009 in the set Zendikar and was printed exactly in 2 different ways. It's currently being selled by the minimum price of 55.11.
A deck that focuses on aggressive strategies and aims to deplete the opponent's hand quickly would benefit from using Hellfire Mongrel, as it can pressure opponents with low hand sizes. However, there are potentially better options like \[\[Rampaging Ferocidon\]\] which deals damage more consistently. Whether Hellfire Mongrel should see play depends on the specific strategy and synergy within the deck, as it can be a situational but impactful card in the right context.
Rules
10/01/09
Hellfire Mongrel’s triggered ability has an “intervening ‘if’ clause.” That means (1) the ability won’t trigger at all unless the opponent whose turn it is has two or fewer cards in hand as their upkeep starts, and (2) the ability will do nothing if that player has three or more cards in hand by the time it resolves.
