A deck that focuses on casting a lot of noncreature spells would benefit from using Jhessian Thief, as its prowess ability allows it to grow in power with each spell cast, while its card draw ability provides card advantage. However, there are potentially better cards for similar strategies, such as Delver of Secrets, which can transform into a powerful flyer, or Snapcaster Mage, which can flash back noncreature spells from the graveyard. Whether Jhessian Thief should see play would depend on the specific strategy and synergies of the deck, but it could be a solid inclusion in the right build.

Any spell you cast that doesn’t have the type creature will cause prowess to trigger. If a spell has multiple types, and one of those types is creature (such as an artifact creature), casting it won’t cause prowess to trigger. Playing a land also won’t cause prowess to trigger.

Once it triggers, prowess isn’t connected to the spell that caused it to trigger. If that spell is countered, prowess will still resolve.
