About Lightning Surge

Lightning Surge, Sorcery, designed by Ron Spears first released in May, 2002 in the set Judgment. It's currently being selled by the minimum price of 80.28.

A red burn deck focused on quickly filling the graveyard would benefit from Lightning Surge, especially if it can reliably achieve threshold to deal 6 damage. While Lightning Surge is a solid option for direct damage, some players may prefer more versatile or efficient burn spells like Lightning Bolt or Skewer the Critics, which can be cast for cheaper costs and don't rely on graveyard conditions. Overall, Lightning Surge could see play in specific graveyard-centric burn strategies but may not be a top choice for all red decks.

Rules

03/19/21

To determine the total cost of a spell, start with the mana cost or alternative cost (such as a flashback cost) you’re paying, add any cost increases, then apply any cost reductions. The converted mana cost of the spell is determined only by its mana cost, no matter what the total cost to cast the spell was.

03/19/21

You can cast a spell using flashback even if it was somehow put into your graveyard without having been cast.

03/19/21

“Flashback [cost]” means “You may cast this card from your graveyard by paying [cost] rather than paying its mana cost” and “If the flashback cost was paid, exile this card instead of putting it anywhere else any time it would leave the stack.”

10/04/04

It either deals 4 damage or 6 damage. It does not deal 10 damage.
