This card, Make Yourself Useful, would be beneficial in a control deck that focuses on removal and gaining life to stabilize the board. While it provides a nice removal option and life gain, there are more efficient cards like Path to Exile or Fatal Push that offer better removal at a lower cost. However, if the deck is looking for a specific synergy with gaining life, this card could see play in a casual or themed deck.

If the target creature isn’t destroyed, most likely because it has indestructible, you won’t gain any life. The same is true if the target creature leaves the battlefield before this scheme’s triggered ability resolves.
