Best Cards in The Hobbit for HistoricThe Hobbit is the latest Magic: The Gathering set. The great characters from this book and their stories are now part of MTG.In this article, we'll go over the best cards from this set to Historic, considering the current meta, which is quite diverse and fun. We'll also explore which strategies can benefit from these new cards.Bilbo's GambitBilbo's Gambit is a 2-mana instant that you can use on spells on the stack directly. It returns the card in question to its controller's hand, and if you Gift a Treasure, it activates a bonus effect: both players can't cast spells until the end of the turn.Some spells come to mind when we see Bilbo's Gambit. All of them are available in Historic, and each one does something slightly different in similar situations. This new card adheres to the standard we're all used to. The difference is that both players can't do anything else that turn after you play this new card, and you must not take this lightly.Now, considering which strategies can benefit from this card, the most obvious option is using it in the sideboard to beat decks that play many spells. You can use it to buy some time or even stop a combo.This card could also encourage Historic players to build their own version of Modern's Scepter deck, with Orim's Chant, Ephemerate, and Eternal Witness.Most Decrepit Old BirdMost Decrepit Old Bird is an interesting addition to Historic. This creature, which is also an Adventure, will support many strategies that rely on the graveyard. It is very similar to Picklock Prankster, but the Adventure side doesn't work at instant speed, and it puts a little bit more pressure.The fact it doesn't work at instant speed (and Prankster does) is a big downgrade to many strategies, like Izzet Phoenix. This archetype is quite viable in Historic, but a 2/2 for 1 mana with evasion has its strengths.Another archetype that can use this new addition well is Dredge, which has now gained another interesting auto-mill piece and can also put pressure in the late game. I believe this card could replace Otherworldly Gaze easily simply because it puts a resource in your hand and creates a body in emergencies.Gandalf, Goblins' BaneGandalf, Goblins' Bane could fit Izzet Wizards really well alongside Vivi Ornitier in a more Midrange-y build. Its Adventure works really well in this type of deck, as it gives you card advantage, and you can cast it later as a threat because of its passive ability.Another strategy that can use this card really well is Ruby Storm, an archetype that is pretty viable in Historic. Gandalf can replace one of the card draw spells and allow you to pave the way for Grapeshot or even end the game.Through the Forest GateThis is an incredible card that could really boost a deck that saw play in other formats and might now become a real threat in Historic: 5C-Gates!This deck centers around Gate lands and needs Maze's End, which gives you the win if you control 10 Gates or more. To do this, this deck plays each one of the Ravnica Gates as well as a few other Gates from other sets. It also plays lots of ramp and cards that interact with this main game plan.Circuitous Route is one of the current ramp options for this archetype. It lets you ramp while you look for the pieces you need for the combo. Gates Ablaze is quite interesting in this list, as it is a board wipe that gets better the more Gates you control. As for Primeval Titan, it is the perfect card for this list. It interacts with the main game plan and is still a great threat when it is in play.Through the Forest Gate can see play in this deck as a late-game card that solves the match by giving you the Gates you need to win. It also gives you something critical for this strategy: life points.You can build this deck in many different ways. More Midrange-y, more control-y, or more focused on the combo, and I believe this new card could make it a lot better in the meta.The Sackville-BagginsesThis creature has a pretty interesting effect for an excellent cost. The Sackville-Bagginses comes into play and turns a creature or artifact into an opportunity to draw cards and a Treasure token. Furthermore, this card can work as a finisher in many ways, but the main one is in the Broodscale Combo.To sum up, when Broodscale and Ghost Lantern are in play, you may equip the artifact on the Lizard, activate its ability, and create an Eldrazi token. When you sacrifice the token and create colorless mana, you'll trigger Broodscale's passive ability. Like so, you'll kickstart an infinite engine that creates tokens and +1/+1 counters, which will also create infinite mana in the process. It will also trigger The Sackville-Bagginses' passive ability and drain the opponent's life points until you win.This card enters play and immediately creates resources. It could work really well in any build that interacts with sacrifice, which makes it an excellent addition to Historic.My PreciousSimilarly to the card above, My Precious can be great in Broodscale Combo and other sacrifice decks. This is an artifact that costs 3 mana, protects a creature, and allows it to attack the opponent stress-free. Its Adventure side is also a card draw tool that usually sees play in the builds we mentioned.You can use this card in Broodscale Combo as another way to go for the win, considering it can make Basking Broodscale unblockable and untargetable by removals.
