However, there are better cards like Counterspell or Mana Leak that offer more efficient and reliable spell counter abilities without the additional requirement of having an Army on the battlefield. Saruman's Trickery may not see much play in competitive Magic: the Gathering decks due to its mana cost and conditional nature.
