Vault Guardsman fits best in go-wide white creature decks—like Selesnya Tokens, Boros Convoke, or mono-white midrange—where convoke lets you tap small creatures to cast it ahead of curve while keeping mana open, and its Oblivion Ring–style removal provides tempo by exiling a key artifact or creature; it’s especially reasonable in Standard-level formats built around board presence. That said, at six mana it’s inefficient compared to stronger options like **Skyclave Apparition** (cheaper, hits a broad range of permanents), **Brutal Cathar** (repeatable and aggressive), **Touch the Spirit Realm**, **Banishing Light**, or even **Angel of Sanctions**, all of which provide similar or better removal at lower cost or with added value. Because it only hits artifacts or creatures and is vulnerable to removal (giving the permanent back), Vault Guardsman is generally outclassed in competitive formats and would mainly see play in limited or budget convoke-themed builds rather than optimized constru
