Armed Assailant would fit best in a black-based aggressive or midrange deck that leverages Equipment, such as a Rakdos or Orzhov Equipment build, because its deathtouch makes it an excellent early deterrent and, once equipped, it becomes a meaningful evasive threat with +2/+0 and menace; however, at three mana for what is essentially a 2/2 (assuming typical stats for this cost) with conditional upside, it is underpowered compared to stronger three-drops like Glissa Sunslayer (which offers first strike and deathtouch with card advantage), Graveyard Trespasser (resilient and disruptive), or even Nighthawk Scavenger in older formats, all of which provide more consistent value without requiring additional setup, so unless you are specifically committed to an Equipment synergy deck and need redundancy, Armed Assailant is unlikely to see competitive play and would be more at home in casual or limited environments rather than optimized constructed formats.
