A deck focused on big creatures with high toughness, such as a ramp or midrange deck, would benefit from using Gate Smasher in Magic: the Gathering. While Gate Smasher provides a significant power boost and trample to a creature with toughness 4 or greater, there are potentially better equipment cards like Sword of Feast and Famine or Sword of Fire and Ice that offer additional benefits such as protection and card advantage. However, Gate Smasher could still see play in decks looking to overwhelm opponents with powerful, trampling creatures.

Gate Smasher’s equip ability can target any creature. However, if that creature’s toughness is 3 or less as the equip ability resolves, Gate Smasher won’t become attached to it.
